CES 2019

Narciso García from the Grupo de Tratamiento de Imágenes at the UPM, visited CES 2019 in Las Vegas to gather first-hand experience of the new technologies and products for the audiovisual consumer electronics sector. Ultra-thin UltraHD-4K displays endowed with HDR were considered the past-present and UltraHD-8K displays were widely available.

Among a general trend from technologies to solutions, there was a widespread use of the global connectivity provided by 5G and the advantages provided by the introduction of artificial intelligence based approaches. The 5G ecosystem, offering the backbone for transportation, will change everything: virtual reality, connected car, home appliances, sports technology, digital health, … paving the way for building smart cities. Further on, the 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) will transform our lives.

Many technologies and applications of augmented, virtual, and mixed reality, gaming, and self-driving technology were present. On the one hand, immersive media is changing the way in which sports are consumed. On the other hand, transportation will become easier, greener, safer and farther reaching.
